Subnautica: How To Harvest Large Resource Deposits

Subnautica Prawn guide

In Subnautica, you’ll stumble upon a treasure trove known as Large Resource Deposits, but here’s the kicker: you can’t start scooping up goodies from them until later in the game. And to add to the challenge, the game doesn’t exactly spill the beans on what you need to crack them open, which can be a real headache, especially for newbies. You could spend ages scouring the ocean depths and still come up empty-handed, but don’t throw in the towel just yet.

Large Resource deposits are a breeze to mine once you’ve got the scoop on what you’re after. It might take a while to fully explore all of Subnautica’s biomes, but trust me, it’s worth the effort.

Types Of Large Resource Deposits

Let’s start with the basics: a Large Resource Deposit is essentially a big mound of a specific raw material. When you crack it open, it breaks into several chunks, making it a prime spot for stocking up on a particular resource.

Here’s a breakdown of the resources you’ll find in Large Resource Deposits:

  • Copper
  • Gold
  • Kyanite
  • Lead
  • Lithium
  • Magnetite
  • Nickel
  • Quartz
  • Salt
  • Silver
  • Titanium
  • Uranite Crystal
  • Ion Cube

Craft A Prawn Suit

But before you dive into harvesting Large Resource Deposits, you’ll need to get your hands on a Prawn Suit. You’ve gotta scan all the pieces to unlock it, and unfortunately, they’re tucked away in the Aurora.

Prepare yourself for a run-in with a Reaper Leviathan. Some folks opt to distract it with a Seamoth while they sneak past. Once inside the Aurora, you’ll find four incomplete Prawn Suits, each contributing 25 percent to the blueprint.

The recipe’s a bit involved, but here’s what you’ll need to craft it:

  • 2x Plasteel Ingots
  • 2x Aerogel
  • 2x Diamond
  • 2x Lead
  • 1x Enameled Glass

Remember, you’ll also need a Mobile Vehicle Bay to whip up the suit.

It runs on two power cells, so keep some spares handy or set up a Moonpool at your seabase to juice it up. While the Prawn Suit can take you to deeper depths than the Seamoth, it’s not as nimble, so it’s smart to bring along another vehicle.

Craft A Prawn Suit Drill Arm

Now that you’ve got your Prawn Suit sorted, it’s time to gear up for Large Resource Deposits. The Prawn Suit Drill Arm is the key upgrade for this vehicle, perfect for mining resources.

Keep in mind, you’ll need a Vehicle Upgrade Console for this recipe, so make sure you’ve got that covered before diving in.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 5x Titanium
  • 4x Diamond
  • 1x Lithium

Use Your New Vehicle And Its Upgrade

With your suit and drill arm ready to roll, head out into the ocean and hunt down those Large Resource Deposits. When you spot one of these mineral mounds, simply activate the arm to start gathering materials.

Pro tip: Set up a Gravosphere to catch any falling debris from the deposit you’re mining.

Another tip: Utilize the Scanner Room to pinpoint nearby deposits, as it can’t peek inside different outcrops.
