Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty adds cyberware that lets you air-dash, see through walls, and ‘change your appearance to lose the heat’

Cyberpunk

Well, well, well, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to be circling back to address one of its biggest gripes since launch.

Remember when the game first dropped in 2020, and you couldn’t tweak your character’s appearance after creating them? It was downright baffling—you couldn’t even switch up your hairstyle or nail color once you dove into the game. Turns out, the game wasn’t fully cooked at launch, and it took until the hefty 1.5 update in 2022 for CD Projekt to finally add the long-awaited feature to Cyberpunk 2077.

Now, in the upcoming September expansion, Phantom Liberty, you’ll be able to transform your appearance on the fly, thanks to some nifty new cyberware. At the Xbox Games Showcase Extended, Paweł Sasko, the quest director, gave us a sneak peek at the expansion’s new location, Dogtown, and teased some of the new cyberware you can snag on the black market.

“Like the air-dash, or the ability to see enemies through walls, or change your appearance to lose the heat,” Sasko spilled.

Those abilities sound like game-changers, especially if you can pair the air-dash with some “fortified ankles” and “reinforced tendons” for a sweet double-jump action. Plus, seeing enemies through walls? Total RoboCop move—I’m all for it.

And the ability to change your appearance on the fly, not just while standing in front of a mirror or sitting in a ripperdoc’s chair? That’s next-level cool. It’s like giving your body a fresh paint job in GTA while you’re being chased by the cops. Only this time, you’re the canvas!

As for how this cyberware works, Sasko didn’t spill the beans, and the footage didn’t reveal much. But I’d put my money on it being some sort of holographic projection over your face or maybe even your entire body and outfit. Beats the heck out of having machinery physically reconfigure your appearance—that sounds like a painful makeover, if you ask me.
